Jill Zarin on Daytime!

Catching Up & Sucking It In With Jill Zarin!

2012-02-09-image001.jpg
As all of New York is a-flutter with the beginning of New York Fashion Week, one of the original New York "housewives," Jill Zarin, is all a-flutter in St. Petersburg, Florida. Yes, St. Petersburg! This is not a typo.
St. Pete is the home of e-tail shopping giant HSN, where everyone who's anyone seems to make an appearance these days. I also worked on air there early in my career, so I understand the frenzy of going on air there for the first time. I loved it, but it's live and it's hectic even for a seasoned TV personality like Jill. Nevertheless, she seemed calm and excited about this new chapter in her life and her brand.
Don't think Ms. Zarin is sitting in her apartment watching the world go by, as if any of us really thought that was an option. No, she is taking her over 25 years of retail experience and parlaying it into her new venture, a shape wear line called Skweez Couture. An unexpected, yet rather savvy move considering it's a fairly wide open market ripe for a little competition. And according to Jill, she's got better price points.
Skweez Couture is available in some major retailers like Lord & Taylor, Macy's, online and now HSN. Jill told me she feels that in order for women to be confident and feel good about themselves they need to start with a good foundation. And we all know a good foundation starts with sucking in the fat!! Yay, Jill! The prices range from $20-$75 in sizes from small through 2XL, which covers everyone across the U.S. I told her my biggest gripe about the shape wear on the market today was that there were those telltale bulge marks that look awful and sometimes, make you look even fatter. Hello, muffin top where there was none?? I was assured by her that this was not the case with Skweez Couture because they were cut differently and the focus was more on the stomach and not on the bands. Whew, I can skip Pilates today!
But, we are not stopping at sucking in the tummy. She has a jewelry line coming this summer, too. Bright, chunky rings and more stylish baubles are on the horizon so keep your eyes and ears peeled. From what I saw, they look like a perfect fit for more visits to HSN, but hey, what do I know?
At the end of the day, it all seems to be about giving her audience products that are high quality and glam but at "everyday woman" pricing and availability. I'm going to give those cute boy shorts a go next time I'm on air and I'll let you know.
Tune in February 10 to catch Jill Zarin's debut on HSN. Visit www.hsn.com for show times!
Mazel Tov, Jill. And remember your features and benefits.

“Real Housewife” Jill Zarin to Bow Her Own Jewelry Line

Jill Zarin and her husband Bobby own Zarin Fabrics
New York—She may have been fired last fall from her hit reality TV series, “The Real Housewives of New York,” but Jill Zarin isn’t letting that hinder getting her name out to fans.
Last summer Zarin teamed up with Triad Hosiery to create her own shapewear collection, Skweez by Jill Zarin. Now she’s planning her own jewelry collection which will launch in a micro form in February at www.jillzarinjewelry.com . A full fashion jewelry collection, which will retail between $28 to $110, is slated to launch this fall in department stores.
“My jewelry and accessories have definitely been a topic of conversation over the years and I wanted to share some of my favorite pieces with everyone at affordable prices,” says Zarin. “I like my rings bold and colorful. They should be something someone notices and become a topic of conversation. Jewelry can often be a way for people to connect.”
Zarin: “Disappointed” about Her Dismissal from “RHoNY”

Rose gold plate and CZ ring, suggested retail: $100
Many fans were surprised when Bravo TV announced that Zarin and several other of New York “real housewives” wouldn’t be returning to the show. Zarin recently told the Hollywood Reporter that she was “disappointed” in Bravo’s decision.
“The show made women in their 40s and 50s relevant again. Hollywood is all about young girls, and this was an opportunity that didn’t require us to be young and beautiful. It’s real women,” Zarin said. “But I won’t miss the lying and the fighting. And I won’t miss the stress over clothes. I had to have 80 outfits for the season, and I would totally stress over that.”
Her jewelry collection is being produced under a license with Glitterings, a fashion jewelry supplier that specializes in rings.
According to  Karen Webster and Joyce Tsao, Glitterings’ co-founders,  they knew they wanted to work with Zarin after their first encounter. Zarin had worn one of the Carolina Amato necklaces Glitterings produces during her appearance on a “RHoNY” reunion special on Bravo TV. From the reaction, “it was crystal clear to me that she was a bright start with a distinct fashion point of view and an amazing talent for accessorizing with jewelry, which when combined with her keen business instincts made the idea of creating a signature jewelry line for her—without question—a smart one,” says Webster.

Zarin is only the lastest reality star from the “Real Housewives” franchise to launch her own jewelry collection. Ramona Singer, another “RHoNY” who remains on the show, has her own jewelry collection. As does another ex-RHoNY Kim Bensimon, and Teresa Giudice of “Real Housewives of New Jersey.”
And there’s more: Kim Zolciak of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” has a jewelry collection along with former “real housewives” Danielle Staub of “New Jersey,” Lynne Curtin of “Orange County” and Lisa Wu Hartwell of “Atlanta.”

Jill Zarin Launches Jewelry Line, Denies Feud With Bethenny Frankel

Jan 16, 2012 by JENNY SCHAFER

Jill Zarin Launches Jewelry Line, Denies Feud With Bethenny Frankel
Jill Zarin's departure from The Real Housewives of New York has not slowed her down one bit! From rumors of a new reality TV series, to a creating successful shapewear products, to launching a new jewelry line, Jill is one celebrity entrepreneur to watch for!
The mom-of-one opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about her jewelry launch with a micro collection on February 1 just in time for Valentine's Day. Jill also talks about her "forced" departure from Real Housewives of New York and denies a feud with fellow celeb mom Bethenny Frankel, even stating that they're moving forward with a friendship. Read on about Jill becoming GLITTERRINGS' first celebrity designer, and more...
CBS: Tell us all about your new jewelry collection.

JZ: "I've always loved jewelry and I have a lot of it. People always asked me when I was on Housewives where I get it. I wore a necklace at the reunion that I borrowed from a company. Afterwards some of my fans asked me about the jewelry and where to buy it and then we started talking about doing a line together. They're an amazing company and a great partner. I have so many ideas of what the line should be. We're putting out a micro line for February 1. Some rings and bracelets. And I'm really focussing my attention on the line of about 70-90 pieces and will sell in the department stores. We already have one major retalier.
I also have a shapewear line called Skweez Couture that's being sold in department stores and is doing really well. I'll also be selling that on HSN on February 10 for three hours. It's a moderate-priced brand. My brand stands for value. It is solution-based because I'm a real person and I see problems with everything and I like to complain [laughs]. I try to find solutions to everything I find in my closet."
CBS: Where do you find inspiration for your jewelry designs?

JZ: "Everywhere! For the first collection, I drew inspiration from Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry. My husband is so incredibly supportive in everything I do and when Elizabeth was selling her jewelry, I bought all the catalogues and went and saw it. My husband wanted to buy me a piece to inspire me. It's a gigantic blue stone, around 50 carats surrounded by diamonds, 18 carats, designed by a famous Italian designer. It's got two dolphins on it and it reminds me of my daughters blue eyes. I always go for blue - there will always be something blue in my collection. So I'm going to use this as a base and kick it off from there.
We're heading out on a cruise and we're going to Guatamala, Belize, Mexico, so I'll find inspiration there as well. Any excuse to go shopping - it doesn't take much! Anything can inspire me. With the Elizabeth Taylor collection, it wasn't necessarily her jewelry, it was her clothing. She has the most incredible hand-beaded pieces. So it doesn't have to be exactly a piece of jewelry. It could be looking at a church and just visualizes an architectural type of necklace. You never know!
I have a basics collection and I've designed a ring with a heart and it looks like a $5,000 ring and I'm selling it for $110. I'm wearing it right now and I'm looking at it and it's rose gold, and it's gorgeous! I'm traveling right now and I don't like to wear my real jewelry. You have no idea how much stuff I've lost in my life. You have no idea! My husband is so happy I'm doing this jewelry line since I lose everything. It's not just losing it, I've had things stolen. My stuff has been taken away from me one way or another, so it's win-win. I think with jewelry prices and diamond prices at an all-time high, there's no reason that women are going to pay an arm and a leg...literally!"
CBS: Do you miss being on Real Housewives of New York?

JZ: "Not really. I did it for four years I have to say. Allyson [my daughter] did her entire high school on the show, so there are things about it that I miss. But even if I was on it now, those things wouldn't be there. It's just the timing and the place, and without Kelly [Bensimon]....we were just such a great team. We had a lot of fun together. I always look forward and I never look back. It was sort of like in high school, they force you to you graduate even if you don't want to leave. I was forced to graduate, and it turned out to be a blessing."
CBS: Is there still a feud between you and former RHONY costar Bethenny Frankel?

JZ: "There's no feud. Absolutely no feud. None whatsoever."
CSB: Are you moving forward with a friendship with Bethenny?

JZ: "Absolutely!"
CBS: Tell us about your daughter Allyson.
JZ: "Allyson is 19. She's in college down in Nashville. I don't know what she's taking right now, she keeps changing. Last semester she did a lot of religious studies. This term she's doing more social-type of classes. She's really exploring herself and just trying to figure out what she wants to do. She's very lucky that she's got those options! We spent 4 weeks together over Christmas break and she's going to come home during the Jewish holidays in April and then she's home the end of April."
CBS: Do you have any Valentine's Day plans with your husband Bobby?
JZ: "Yes, I'll be on HSN! I'll probably be at home in bed after selling for 3 hours on television [laughs]! But seriously, of course I make a big deal about Valentine's. We go to a nice restaurant and some years we take a trip with friends. Every year it's different. The flame isn't always burning hot. It goes up and down as all marriages and relationships do. But I think Bobby and I have great chemistry and we know each other very well. Bobby taught me - because he's a little bit older and wiser than me - that relationships are like a book. You have short chapters and long chapters, fast chapters and slow chapters. You just have to be patient and get to the next chapter. You know, don't throw out the book with the bathwater, so to speak. Not that I'm naming any recently divorced names, but you have to at least try and give it your best shot."
--
Jill Zarin Jewelry debuts February 1 just in time for Valentine's Day. Also, Jill will be on HSN on Friday, February 10 at 9 A.M., 3 P.M. and 8 P.M. to promote her exclusive Skweez Couture bodywear line.

dana's loft HAIR fab Kera Plus Hair Collection reviewed on Gimme That Glow!

Kera Plus | Keratin Hair Care Collection | Review + Photos

So I'm pretty sure that many of you are familiar with the Keratin trend that's been going around lately. Well if you haven't got on board yet what exactly are you waiting for? Kera Plus Keratin Hair Care Collection is a brand of hair products created by Dana Gibbs of dana’s loft HAIR Salon. She's created a Sodium Chloride, Paraben and Formaldehyde Free product line that will not only maintain smooth, frizz-free hair, but will help strengthen and bring back to life damaged hair and improve the health of all hair types. Kera Plus was formulated with high concentrations of keratin and with continued use replaces the keratin lacking in damaged hair and seals gaps that prevent split ends and breakage in weak strands.
This innovative new hair care collection was directly inspired by her salon experience. After doing a lot of keratin treatments on clients at her salon, she found that some clients did not have the time to do the repeated treatments needed to maintain smooth hair or they wanted to avoid the formaldehyde in traditional keratin treatments. With Kera Plus, she created a formaldehyde-free keratin enriched system that combats frizz, strengthens the hair and allows clients to maintain smooth, frizz-free hair at home without having to commit to a salon keratin treatment.
I personally got the opportunity to try out a few of the products from the collection for myself which include; the Kera Plus Keratin Infused Shampoo, Conditioner and Serum. Check out photos of my results and my full review below.

Kera Plus Keratin Infused Shampoo Ingredients

This is my hair after I washed and combed the conditioner through
Blow Dried
Flat Ironed

Glow: Well for starters I'll just say that my hair really seems to like keratin based products. I've only tried one other brand with keratin prior to this but they both delivered equally satisfying results.  The Kera Plus shampoo and conditioner both smell amazing. What I loved most about the conditioner is that it made it easier to detangle my curls. I also really liked that the scent lingered in my hair for a day or so, that's definitely a perk I mean who doesn't want great smelling hair? I also noticed that when blow drying my hair it seemed less frizzy than normal.

Glare: No cons, I truly like all three products! I have to admit though that I was a little hesitant at first  about using the Keratin Infused Serum. that's mainly because I have oily hair so I can't really put a lot of product on it without it looking greasy or weighed down. But to my surprise the serum wasn't oily at all, nor did it cause any issues; it actually helped to keep my hair from frizzing up.  I applied the serum post shampoo and conditioning to my damp hair. I normally use moroccanoil if I'm going to flat iron my hair but I didn't with this because I feared that it might create a build up if I used both products. And honestly after seeing how the serum works I think I could still add the moroccanoil if I wanted to without creating any issues.

Would I Recommend It? Yes, definitely! It's a great product. Being that my hair is natural I know how important it is to find products that can tame my tresses especially when humidity gets a hold of it and on those days when I want to wear my it straight. It's definitely a great addition to my hair regimen!

Where To Buy: The Kera Plus Hair Care Collection is comprised of 4 hair care products formulated for all hair textures to cut down frizz, keep hair smooth and repair damaged hair, while adding body, bounce and shine. The 4 products are: Keratin Infused Shampoo, which retails for $6 - 2fl oz, $20 - 8fl oz. Keratin Infused Conditioner, which retails for $6 - 2fl oz, $20 - 8fl oz. Keratin Infused Serum, which retails for $10 - 2fl oz, $20 - 4fl oz. Keratin Infused Masque, which retails for $6 - 2fl oz, $20 - 8fl oz. The products are available at dana’s loft HAIR Salon and at danasloft.com

New Year, New Me: My Hair Makeover at Dana's Loft Hair

It's a new year, so it's the perfect time for a hair makeover.  I've been wearing my hair in twists for about a decade and during that time I've only had it blown out and trimmed a few times.  So I jumped at the opportunity for Dana Gibbs, celebrity stylist and CEO of dana's loft HAIR (96 Orchard Street, 212-677-7701), to give my hair some long overdue TLC.

"More than half my clients have natural hair, and they can wear it straight or curly," says Dana, who specializes in blow-outs, perms, weaves and the Brazilian Keratin treatment. "[Black women] are the only ethnic group with so many [styling] options."

My twisted hair before my makeover.
Since my tresses are completely relaxer-free, in its natural state my hair shrinks up a lot after it's been washed.  And I haven't seen its actual length in at least a year.  I also had a resistant gray patch in the front that I desperately needed covered.

Dana blowing my hair out.

So the first step in my makeover was for Dana to put a dark brown color in my hair, which she let sit for about 20 minutes.  Afterwards, she rinsed and washed my hair with the Kera Plus Shampoo from her formaldehyde-and-sulfate-free Kera Plus Collection.  Then she applied a deep conditioner and sat me under the dryer for another 20 minutes.

"Keratin is a protein that helps to strengthen the hair," explains the stylist who has worked with Rihanna, Raven Symone and Corrine Bailey Rae. But she cautions, "there's no secret formula to help hair grow faster. It can break as fast as it can grow, depending on your own [growth] cycle."

Once the conditioner was rinsed out, Dana combed through my hair using my trusty Ouidad Double Detangler comb.  She then sectioned my hair into twists and sat me under the dryer again to get out the remaining moisture.

Finally, she blew my hair dry using a brush and trimmed my ends.  I couldn't believe how long my hair was once it was blown out, and my edges -- although thinner than the rest of my hair -- were in better shape than I thought.  Dana then dabbled on some Tex Me Pomade (my fave new hair product) from her ME Collection and flat-ironed my hair.

The last step was styling my hair.  Dana said she wanted to give me loose, playful curls like Tracee Ellis Ross.  And she did.  I couldn't believe my hair could achieve such bouncin' and behavin' heights. Although the style only lasted a day and I wore my hair pulled into a pony for the next few days, I'll definitely return to dana's loft HAIR the next time I'm an un-twisted sister.

"We were the strongest tenant," co-owner Monica Phromsavanh says of ModaListas.

"With this economy, the recipe for success is to follow what the audience and public wants. Obviously we want to [cater] to high-fashion and higher end lines. But people are looking for fashion at lower prices, and we have a lot of options for under $100."

What the women who shop at ModaListas want is a mix of contemporary ready-to-wear and unique designer fashions at affordable price points.

"Not everyone can afford the $300 dress," says Monica, who is Asian but grew up in Argentina.  "But you can still get something fabulous for the holidays."

Plus, the store sells its own fashion-forward, limited edition line from $85 - $295 (styles change almost every other week); and items from emerging designers like Shirin Askari from the sixth season of Project Runway for $300 - $600.

Exclusively for Everything She Wants' readers, ModaListas is offering a 20 percent discount on select clothing and accessories for under $100.

Too Many Sequins reviews GLITTERRINGS fabulous Glenda ring !

Glitterrings: Glenda the Good Witch.

So at the beginning of the month I was contacted by the lovely people at Glitterrings. A company that has just launched an amazing plus size ring collection. Boy oh boy! Did this make me excited, usually larger size rings are plain, boring and sometimes can be quite ugly.

But Glitterrings.. well even the name is pretty. A sure sign of good things to follow. After I was asked to select a ring, I was looking through the press kit and I spotted the Glenda Ring. I mean there were alllllll so beautiful, the Glenda was special. A ring I had been searching for, for a long time. A ring I had wished for. I also adored the name, The Wizard of Oz was one of my favourite movies growing up, and I always adored Glenda the Good Witch. And this ring remind's me so much of her. I could even see her wearing it. <3

The packing was beautiful, even inside the shipment box it was wrapped in glitter tissue paper (which I have never seen before) and it was just a pure joy to unwrap. I love that it comes it its only little mesh bag and it even has its own box, if you want to put some ribbon on it to make for a lush gift this holiday season.

I really tried to capture how it glittlers... like a white version of Dorothy's Slippers you might say. It simply glistens. This photo is not editied in any way( none of them are, EVER!), other than where I add my blog address or being cropped, so to me this ring looks a little magical in this shot! Its stunning.

It has a really beautiful heaviness to it, and you can tell its an amazing, amazing, quality.. and it looks amazing on.....

I asked for a ring size 12, and I can wear it on a number of different fingers. Its a huge statement/cocktail ring. And a lovely way to dress up a casual outfit or to add some extra glam to that dress your going to wear to Christmas and NYE Parties this holiday season! It's a dream ring!

Now here is the extremely good part of this post, I am going to play Fairy God Mother (with the help of the lovely people at Glitterings, of course) and bring you the chance to own "The Glenda" for yourself, now wouldn't that be nice?

So, before I give you the deets on the give away, I'll tell you more about the ring and the collection. The collection it's self has a size range of 10 - 13 and all the rings are really fashion forward but classic at the same time. The "Glenda" retails for $98 USD, and its made up of a faceted glass centre and cubic zarconia pave. It also has a rhodium plating, all this equals - stunning, stunning quality.
